Position: Partner & Head of Regulatory Affairs
Location: Zurich
Workload: 100% full-time

Job objective

Partner & Head of Regulatory Affairs is responsible for leading the firm’s regulatory practice, providing strategic legal counsel to clients on compliance, regulatory frameworks, and navigating complex industry specific regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Advise clients on compliance with Swiss and international regulatory frameworks, focusing on banking law, insurance law, collective investment schemes law, capital markets law, and asset management
  • Provide guidance on adherence to relevant Swiss regulations, including FINMASA, FINMAO, the Swiss Code of Obligations, and the GWG, as well as other supervisory laws governing the financial services sector
  • Counsel clients on compliance with AML/KYC regulations and assist with the implementation of internal controls to prevent financial crimes
  • Offer strategic advice to clients on the interpretation and application of complex regulatory standards from global regulatory authorities such as CSSF, MFSA, FMA, CIMA, and BaFin
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients in dealings with regulatory authorities, including FINMA and other supervisory bodies
  • Draft, review, and negotiate legal agreements and contracts within the financial services sector, including due diligence processes, financing agreements, and structuring complex transactions
  • Represent clients in regulatory disputes and assist with arbitration proceedings related to regulatory issues in the financial services industry
  • Cultivate and expand long-term client relationships through high-quality service and proactive engagement
  • Develop business development strategies, contribute to thought leadership (e.g. articles, webinars, events), and represent the firm at industry conferences
  • Mentor and supervise junior lawyers and associates, promoting professional development and knowledge sharing
  • Ensure compliance with internal quality standards, billing targets, and operational goals

Requirements

Education:

  • Swiss bar admission and first-class qualification
  • Excellent academic credentials in law (Master’s degree / PhD)
  • Additional studies in business law or financial law

Professional experience:

  • 10 + years of proven work experience as a lawyer, preferably in a Partner role in a law firm, auditing firm, or senior level in-house legal department of bank or asset management companies

Languages:

  • Stylistically confident, appropriate English and German
  • Additional languages (e.g. French, Italian) are an asset

  • High level of integrity, professional credibility, and discretion
  • Results-oriented, proactive, and resilient under pressure
  • Charismatic and confident, with the ability to represent the firm at conferences and industry forums

  • Established client network and ability to attract new mandates (existing book of business is a strong plus)

  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing team of legal professionals
  • Experience in internal knowledge sharing, thought leadership, and promoting best practices
