Prof. Dr. iur. Max Werkmüller, LL.M.

As Of Counsel Prof. Werkmüller is serving entrepreneur families in Germany and Switzerland including philanthropic and family foundations. He is specialised in the areas of private finance consulting with a strong focus on tax optimised estate and succession planning. Subsequently he is also acting as executor for his clients. Max is also rendering coaching and staff training sessions to banking and asset management units. Since June 2018 he is working as an associated professor for economics and family office management at Allensbach Hochschule in Konstanz.

Max pursued his legal education at the universities of Trier, Bonn and Münster. In 1998 he was hired by HSBC Group as a specialist for estate administration and foundation affairs. In 2007 he was promoted as member of the management team of the CEO private banking. Since then he established a multi-family office platform within the private banking department and was in charge for the development of its businesses. In 2011 he was appointed by a commonly well-known international entrepreneurs’ family and asked to takeover responsibilities for their German family office until 2015. After completion of this mission he worked as managing partner in an accounting firm in Düsseldorf where he continued with his family office services to German Mittelstand entrepreneur families. Since 2019 he emerged with his own legal consulting business as Of Counsel at SSP-LAW a mid-sized law firm specialised in transaction and tax planning businesses. Prof. Werkmüller published numerous scientific articles in his business areas also entailing the family office management. The corresponding book „Family Office Management “, which is edited and published by him since 2008, is currently available in the fourth edition (2019).

Beside his businesses Prof. Werkmüller is engaged as an honorary knight of the Order of St. John where he has taken over several functions with regard to the institutions of the Order. He is member of the board of the beneficial Assmann-Stiftung für Prävention in Münster and member of the board of the Förderstiftung der Kaiserswerther-Diakonie and the Förderstiftung Kinder- und Jugendhospiz Regenbogenland, Düsseldorf. Max is married and has three sons. He lives with his family in Düsseldorf.
